 The Other Woman

 She knows well enough

to respect me.

She knows better than

to ignore me.

I like her in her own right.

I tell myself we should be friends,

not just because it will be easier

but also because it’s

so rare to find

anyone who

gets me

and gets him too.

I could use more friends like her.

And I gather, so could she.

***

Men are not just scraps of meat,

over which we

think we must fight,

only to hurt ourselves

in the process.

We do not need to fight

over this man.

We are not bitches,

but we can share

the bone

like sisters.

With a common agenda

there is much

we can do

together to further

our own needs.

So much energy

wasted either in subterfuge,

detection,

or intervention.

Better to get it out

and get on with it

than to

cower

in the shadow

of denial

or self-deception.

She knows

I saw him first,

and I know

she won’t be the last

to notice him.

She also knows

that when I

follow my nature,

there will be times I will be glad

she will be there for him,

allowing me to take my leave

when and as I choose

when the glove is on the other hand.

***

She is the perfect

Other Woman.

She knows

what it is like

to walk in my shoes

and what hurts

as well as what feels good

if she will just let it.

I understand her completely

because

I have been her

for him

when someone else was me,

and I wanted to be honest

and remain her friend,

but such was not to be.

***

And now,

as I prepare to take my leave

to explore,

to experience

something new

with someone new

I realize that once again

I am the Other Woman

just as much as she is me.

I want to have so much

in common with this

enlightened woman

who sees me as I am,

accepts me,

even encourages me

to help find pleasure

with this man

she loves so much,

I can’t help

loving

her

for the way

that

she loves him.

If women

of uncommon

consciousness

found their friends

from among

their lovers’

paramours

they would never find themselves

lonely

or friendless

again.

I am the Other Woman

just as much as she is me.

A Loving Heart is the Truest Wisdom

One of the most important lesson I’ve learned in life, I learned from my Friend, Husband, Lover, and Playmate.

A quote from novelist Charles Dickens,  “A Loving Heart Is The Truest Wisdom.”  Although it seemed brilliant, and I was drawn to it, the quote created cognitive dissonance in me.

My logical mind said: How could A Loving Heart Be The Truest Wisdom?

Love is an emotion.

Wisdom is a cerebral function, the antithesis of emotion.

Whereas love can be foolish and blind, even outright stupid, wisdom is intelligent, clear-eyed, and directed. Love happens; wisdom is gained through experiences that lead us to deeper understandings, to knowledge as to what is right and wrong. Wise individuals are guided by knowledge, not led down blind alleys by emotion. Wisdom and love could not be farther apart, which meant they could not be one and the same, as Dickens suggests.

Over a very short period of time, I began to realize that love and wisdom are related — very closely related. By my observations, and experiences positive and negative love can inform logic. It can make us Wiser.

As A Mother of 3 Adult Men. My Partner of 22 years of Marriage. a Wise, and Loving Man who has been around the block more times than I could count. I see with great Clarity that a Loving Heart is indeed the Truest form of Wisdom.

I began to understand the relationship between Love and Wisdom more deeply as I watched my Husband. Soul Provider to care for his family. Fantastic Father, and more importantly Friend to his Adult Children.

I can see in My Children’s eyes that they’re profoundly committed to their Dad. They’ve developed into Independent, and Responsible Young Adults in our society.  I’d like to believe that through our Inspiration and Love, our Children are the Wonderful People they are today.

It is now clear too me: if we Operate Out Of Love For Others, the Quality of our Lives can Soar to New Heights.

My Shattered Heart. The broken jagged pieces that saturated with blood have healed. As I choose to put the jagged pieces back together and replenish my blood supply. This process could not have happened if I did not have an Open Loving Heart.

Our lives are so much more Peaceful and Rewarding. We can overcome much Negativity. Although sometimes this process is easier said then done.

The Dali Lama spoke of the palliative benefits of Love when he wrote, “One can Overcome the Forces of Negative Emotions, like anger and hatred, by Cultivating their Counterforce, like Love and Compassion.”

I would like to share that I was unknowingly putting myself  in a very unpleasant position (for me emotionally). Being with Very, Very Unhappy People. They exhibited emotions from anger, to disrespect for one another, and discord within all of their relationships. They possessed extremely negative energies and their general outlook was of Misery. They had no ability to acknowledge or relish in Happiness. No matter how large or small by that gift that was given by An Open Loving Heart. By the time I left, I had hoped that the Love I Spread and Shared Selflessly may not have shown outwardly. In my Loving Wisdom, I’d hoped that the Love had seeped into some dark crack or crevice that has been Closed For So Long, that it would hopefully shine a Light.

On my own personal level, I have created a warm and sacred place where My Love flows Freely.

Let your Love for Others Reign Supreme.

Let your Love guide you on to a path that is simultaneously Fulfilling and Nurturing to those whose Lives Intersect Yours.
